Why study Mechanical Engineering?
At Mechanical Engineering at TU/e, you learn how to design, model and improve the technologies that power tomorrow's world. From precision machines for semiconductor manufacturing to advanced robotics, sustainable energy systems and next-generation manufacturing processes, you will develop the skills to solve complex engineering challenges.
The two-year master's programme combines academic depth with hands-on engineering practice. You are allocated to one of three research divisions and can further tailor your studies through a specialization in areas such as High-Tech Systems, Mechatronic Systems Design, Robotics, Advanced Manufacturing, Materials, Energy or Computational Engineering.
Located in the heart of Brainport Eindhoven, Europe's leading high-tech region, TU/e offers direct connections to the companies and innovations shaping the future of technology.

Three unique strengths
- Study in Europe’s premier high-tech ecosystem:
Brainport Eindhoven is home to world-leading technology companies, innovative startups and cutting-edge research institutes. Throughout your studies, you will work on challenges inspired by real industrial applications while building a valuable professional network. - Engineer the systems behind tomorrow’s technologies:
Mechanical engineers play a key role in developing the complex systems that enable advances in semiconductors, robotics, manufacturing, mobility and sustainable energy. You learn not only how individual components work, but also how they come together in high-performance systems. - Combine scientific depth with real-world impact:
Through research-driven education, multidisciplinary projects and close collaboration with industry, you develop the expertise to translate fundamental engineering knowledge into practical innovations.
Connection with semiconductors industry
The semiconductor industry depends on some of the most advanced mechanical systems ever created. From ultra-precise motion systems and vibration control to thermal management, manufacturing processes and high-tech equipment design, mechanical engineers are essential throughout the semiconductor value chain.
At TU/e, students can deepen their expertise through specializations such as High-Tech Systems, Mechatronic Systems Design, Advanced Manufacturing Across the Scales, Materials for High-Tech Systems Design and Computational Engineering. These specializations provide the knowledge needed to develop the sophisticated technologies behind modern chip production and high-tech manufacturing.
Studying in Brainport Eindhoven places you at the centre of one of the world's most important semiconductor and high-tech ecosystems.
Programme structure
The master's programme combines a strong scientific foundation with the flexibility to shape your own expertise. Students study within one of three research divisions:
- Dynamical Systems Design
- Computational & Experimental Mechanics
- Thermo Fluids Engineering
Within these divisions, students can further develop their interests through one of several specializations, including:
- Advanced Manufacturing Across the Scales
- Computational Engineering Energy Conversion and Storage
- Engineering Fluid Mechanics
- Engineering Solid Mechanics
- High-Tech Systems
- Materials for High-Tech Systems Design
- Mechatronic Systems Design
- Robotics
This structure enables you to develop both deep disciplinary expertise and broad systems-level engineering skills that are highly valued across industry and research.
Career perspectives
Graduates from TU/e Mechanical Engineering are equipped to design, develop and improve complex technologies across a wide range of industries. Career opportunities include roles such as Mechanical Engineer, System Designer, R&D Engineer, Mechatronics Engineer, Manufacturing Engineer and System Architect.
Many graduates contribute to innovations in semiconductors, robotics, high-tech equipment, energy systems and advanced manufacturing. Others continue toward research careers, applying engineering science to the technological challenges of the future.
By combining technical specialization, systems thinking and close industry engagement, the programme prepares you to make an impact in some of the world's most innovative sectors.
Interested in aerospace?
Mechanical Engineering also offers the Aerospace Systems Engineering track. Unlike the specializations listed above, students apply separately to this track. It is designed for students who want to develop expertise in the design, integration and operation of complex aerospace systems.
