The master's specialisation High-Tech Innovation focuses on the development of scientific knowledge for real-world technological applications in high-tech industries. You can combine it with one of our five master programmes: Astronomy, Chemistry, Computer Science, Mathematics, and Physics.

From development of nanomaterials to advanced instrumentation and smart software systems, this specialisation empowers you to become a key player in tomorrow’s technological breakthroughs—through interdisciplinary research, industrial collaboration, and innovation-driven learning.

Do you want to apply your scientific knowledge to real-world technological challenges? Are you interested in working across disciplines to help drive innovation in high-tech industries? Then this master’s specialisation is an excellent choice for you.

You will be prepared for a career in industrial research and development, innovation consultancy, applied systems design, or high-tech entrepreneurship. This specialisation also provides a strong foundation for pursuing a PhD with a focus on science and technology.

You’ll gain hands-on experience by working with leading industry partners in the heart of the Leiden Bio Science Park—one of Europe’s most prominent science and innovation hubs – the Leiden Quantum Hub and many other local high technology companies. The specialisation High-Tech Innovation enables you to become a versatile scientist with the skills to innovate at the cutting edge of science and technology.
